West Coast Trail Trip Itinerary
Note: This is a general outline of what your day could look like — the specific trail and pace could be customized for your group and the day’s conditions.
Day 0
We’ll meet you at the Days Inn Victoria on the Harbour (427 Belleville Street). From there, we’ll travel to Port Renfrew, where we’ll attend the Parks Canada West Coast Trail orientation at the Gordon River Trailhead. After the session, we’ll check into The West Coast Trail Lodge for the night. Once settled in, your guides will go over the trip itinerary, distribute rental gear and food, offer packing tips, review your equipment, and answer any questions. Tonight’s accommodation is included in your package. After our gear check, we’ll head to the Port Renfrew Pub for a relaxing meal by the water (dinner not included in the package).
Day 1
We’ll kick off the day with an early start, stopping at the Coastal Kitchen Café for a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich before heading to the ferry across Gordon River – the official starting point of the West Coast Trail.
While today’s distance is relatively short, the terrain is challenging and slow-going, so we’ll take our time navigating the rugged forest and soaking in the sights and sounds. By mid-afternoon, we’ll arrive at Thrasher Cove, a key starting and finishing point for many hikers on the trail. Tonight, we’ll settle into camp on the West Coast Trail, share stories with fellow hikers, and enjoy our first dinner together on the trail, surrounded by the coastal Canadian wilderness.
Day 2
Today’s route depends on the tides and weather conditions. If conditions allow, we’ll take the coastal route around Owen Point, navigating driftwood, beach boulders, and sandstone bluffs while keeping a close eye on the tides. This rugged shoreline offers incredible scenery and the chance to spot marine wildlife along the way.
If the tides or weather aren’t in our favour, we’ll take the inland forest route, tackling muddy trails, tangled roots, ladders, and fallen trees as we wind through the dense coastal rainforest. Whichever path we take, today is an exciting introduction to the West Coast Trail, combining stunning views with technical terrain to kick off our adventure on the right foot!
Day 3
Ready to get muddy? Today may be one of the toughest sections of the West Coast Trail, but it’s also one of the most rewarding! While we’ll cover a shorter distance than on future days, the challenging terrain means this will be one of the longest days on the trail. Expect a full day of steep ladders, suspension bridges, and a possible cable car crossing, all while navigating the rugged rainforest and coastal landscape.
After tackling this demanding stretch, we’ll settle in for a well-earned campfire dinner, soaking in a stunning West Coast sunset. It's the perfect way to end a truly epic day on the trail.
Day 4
Today's hike from Walbran Creek to Cribs Creek follows a stunning coastal route along sandstone shelves, tidal pools, and driftwood-strewn beaches. Along the way, we’ll pass the historic Carmanah Lighthouse, a century-old beacon perched high above the Pacific. Keep an eye out for eagles, seals, and even whales as we trek.
By evening, we’ll arrive at Cribs Creek, where we’ll unwind by the fire, enjoy a well-earned meal, and take in the ocean sunset, marking another unforgettable day on the West Coast Trail.

Day 6
After enjoying breakfast and packing up camp, we’ll set off from Tsusiat Falls, taking time to capture some final photos and soak in the beauty of the sunrise. Today’s journey covers 13 km of challenging forest terrain, featuring ladders, bridges, and rugged trails as we make our way to our final WCT campsite at Michigan Creek.
Along the way, you’ll tackle rope-assisted climbs, cable car crossings, and iconic ladders, making for an adventurous and rewarding day. With breathtaking scenery and countless photo opportunities, this section of the West Coast Trail is one to remember. Feel free to finish off any extra snacks, lightening your pack before the final stretch tomorrow!
Day 7
Today’s final stretch covers 12 km of easy to moderate terrain, leading us to the Pachena Bay Trailhead by lunchtime. Along the way, we’ll take a break at Sea Lion Rock, soaking in the last coastal views of the journey. After some high- fives and celebration photos, we’ll head to Bamfield for a well-earned meal, onPlaywest! Lunch at the local pub is included (drinks are on your own). With full bellies and great memories, we’ll load up the van for the drive back to Victoria, where we’ll drop guests off at the Days Inn.
Congratulations, you’ve completed the West Coast Trail!

Rated 5 stars on Google

Chris led us through some stunning hikes around the Invermere area. I really appreciated all of the guidance and tips on how to navigate more challenging terrain, including steep slopes and icy paths. Chris is extremely knowledgeable about the area and its geology, flora and fauna, so we learned a lot on each hike. He is a fabulous guide and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Playwest!

Chris guided us on our Sunsets & Fondue experience on Mt. Sansea. It exceeded our expectations!!!!! We met Chris at the lower parking lot & he drove us up to the upper lot in his Yukon--somewhat bumpy at times but still comfortable. He expertly shared hiking strategies & encouragement for steep sections going up & coming down with headlamps in the dark--2 78 year olds & a 64 year old with vision limitations. The sunset & the fondue was spectacular. We toasted 56 years of marriage!! Thanks, Chris for your expertise & hospitality. Excellent fondue!!

My husband and I had an epic day hiking Pedley Pass with Chris! I was a bit nervous leading up to the trailhead, and appreciated being checked in on. We felt super safe on the trail and definitely jived with Chris’ sense of humour. He really gave us confidence on the trail and made it a memorable day! We’ll for sure be booking a guided hike with Chris again in the future.
